SANDRA: This is Sandra. I'm talking with Dave Stone the director of the National Pesticide Information Center or NPIC. Dave, can you tell us about NPIC?

DR. STONE: NPIC is a cooperative agreement between Oregon State University and the Environmental Protection Agency with the primary goal of providing science-based information on pesticides to the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

SANDRA: What is your phone number?

DR. STONE: Our phone number is 1-800-858-7378 or 1-800-858-PEST.

SANDRA: Can anyone call NPIC?

DR. STONE: Anyone is certainly welcome to call NPIC and we do hear from a variety of people including the public, public health officials, pest control operators, veterinarians and physicians.

SANDRA: When are your phone lines open?

DR. STONE: We're open from 8:00 to 12:00 Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.

SANDRA: What if I have a question and your phone lines aren't open?

DR. STONE: Well first, if it's an emergency, you should call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. You're always welcome to leave a voice mail message or send an email to NPIC, and we will address your question. You can also visit us on our Spanish and English websites at npic.orst.edu.

SANDRA: What are some common questions that you get?

DR. STONE: We get all sorts of questions from the general public and others. Most of them relate to safety and exposure. They can include products that are intended for use on pets, products for the lawn, products that may be used indoors, and products that may be used in a vegetable garden.
SANDRA: That sounds like a great service!

DR. STONE: Well, I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me about it.

SANDRA: Thanks, Dave!
